Computing (IT)

IT at Dorchester Middle School is ever developing and falls into two main categories: specialist taught Computing lessons and the integration of technology across the whole curriculum.

Computing lessons take place in a well equipped, air conditioned suite where every child benefits from their own PC as well as an interactive whiteboard and two additional screens. The school has fully embraced the new Computing curriculum. Children learn: how to keep themselves and others safe on line; a range of visual and text based programing languages; to identify and assemble the components of a PC; to manage email and on line accounts; to make their own apps, QR codes and websites; to use a wide range of software including Microsoft Office and Google Docs; to use a range of hardware and peripherals including still and video cameras, iPads and Raspberry Pi.

The skills and hardware which the children learn about in Computing lessons are used to enhance learning across the curriculum. They have access to two additional computer suites, iPads, netbooks, android tablets, Chromebooks, flip cameras and interactive whiteboards.
